Dance Floor Memories

Title: Dance Floor Memories
Creator: Tennyo_elf
Rating: PG
Setting: Season 7 of BtVS, a few nights before the final fight.
Summary/Prompt: Buffy wants to say a few goodbyes to some landmarks and some memories that are no longer relevant to someone in her present. Prompt: Club, Diamonds, Spades, Hearts, and Joker.

Buffy walked into the dark and dusty club, not caring that she was alone, not even caring that it was empty. Everyone had left Sunnydale, they could sense the approaching danger, so all the shops and establishments were empty. But since this club held memories, sweet and not so sweet alike, she couldn’t stop herself from one last visit. She wanted to say goodbye and at least put to rest a certain old memory that still clung to her.

Buffy soon realized she wasn’t alone as she thought. Stepping out the shadows Spike tossed an old flier for the Bronze on the floor.

“Nothing of interest here Slayer. Just old dust mites and broken disco balls.” He glanced up at said ball that was hanging by half a thread and that lit up the ceiling as it shined like a cluster of diamonds.

“Not here on slaying business. Just here to…bury some ghosts.”

He raised an eyebrow at her, “Got some skeletons in your closet I don’t know of?”

She smiled at that and glanced around the Bronze with affection. “This is where we first meet isn’t it?”

“So it’s my ghost you’re burying then?”

Buffy scowled at him missing the point, “You were trying to kill me.”

“Yeah, evil at the time. No surprise there.”

“But you’re not now, you’re helping me and you’re…not…evil.”

Spike smirked at her and tilted his head, “I could be if you wanted that, had it in spades once. Don’t think it would be that hard to dig up some of my old ways.”

Buffy wanted to roll her eyes but she didn’t. She stepped up to him and put her hand softly on his forearm.

“We never danced here before have we?” She half smiled and looked at the dance floor, “Want to dance?”

Spike raised both eyebrows when she asked him that, “My heart is all a stutter. The Slayer is asking this old vamp to a dance?”

This time Buffy did roll her eyes, “Obviously, so yes or no?”

Spike cautiously and gingerly took Buffy’s hand. He lead her to the vacant dance floor and put his other hand on the edge of her hip, barely applying any pressure so that Buffy hardly noticed it. He then slowly moved to a silent tune all the while staring softly into her eyes. She let him lead and returned his gaze with her own sweet filled one. They danced leisurely, naturally following each other’s steps, their feet light and agile. The silence was more than comfortable, it was soothing, melting away the stress of the past and the future, leaving only the present. The fractured light from the ceiling windows and old lamps made them glow.

Spike’s voice broke the spell first, “Never fancied this as our first dance, no music and all. Think we could use our new dance moves on The First?”

Buffy gave him a silent giggle, “Don’t be such a Joker.”

This was a good goodbye to Spike the Evil Vampire and a nice hello to Spike the Man She Loved.

Thank you! It's my first post so I hope I did everything right regarding my prompt interpretation!

Aw, very sweet. I like using the Bronze for club. Wouldn't this have been a lovely scene to see in canon.

Thank you! The bronze was the first thing I thought of when the prompt said club.

I've always wished we could have seen Spike and Buffy dance at the Bronze during any season.

Nice, very nice. A sense of the place and their history.

Thank you!

I kind of felt stuck in the middle with them, because of everything that happened before and what was going to happen in a few days, so I'm happy you liked that line.

This reminded me of a favorite story of mine. "Still Point" by Kalima. You may like it.

Oh, I just read it and it was wonderful. So nice and in character but a bit sad knowing what was to come.

Thank you so much for sharing this with me, I'm always looking for good Spuffy fanfics! <3

Very nice. It has a lovely bittersweet quality.

Thank you! :)

Spuffy is very bittersweet to me. No matter what, I really don't think Spike or Buffy will get a happy ending (even if I want them to). Either one of them is going to die before the other or they are going to die together.

This is great! I can just see it visually - the empty Bronze full of dusty haze and stark lighting... (A bit like in The Wish, but with a cheerier soundtrack. And no corpses.)

Thank you! I'm really glad you could visualize it! I had a certain image in my head and it seems that it translated to your head too! Yay!

(I never seen The Wish though, was it good?)

Wonderful! Totally the Spuffy way, dancing without music, in synch, joking in the face of death.

Thank you!

I tried to make it as Spuffy and in character as much as possible. I loved the season 7 dynamics of the two so it was essentially really fun to write, because this is how I see Spuffy ultimately.

Thank you!

I wanted to do something a little different, so I'm glad it came off creative instead of weird!
