Fic: Wild Soul, I Cling To Thee

Title: Wild Soul, I Cling to Thee
Prompt: Werewolf Blood
Summary: Buffy reflects on her and Spike, through their first and last meetings.
Rating: G

A/N: This is written for red_satin_doll who asked me a while back if I wrote a companion fic to this which is from Spike's POV. I didn't. Now I have. Also, the prompt for Werewolf blood said - "wild and unpredictable", and "subtlety is required"

Wild Soul, I Cling to Thee

The first time she saw him, she saw red.

Demon. Vicious and cruelly calm, he moved with the wild thick in his veins. Made to fight, made to drain. And with passion that burned through all his shadows.

The first time she saw him, she knew he had to die.

There were a thousand meetings, between that first and last, where they bled and shed their skin to each other, where they hurt and kicked and clung. They lived, they died, they cried, and they fought so very hard.

The last time she saw him, it was over. The Hellmouth was falling, victory calling loud and fast. And he, with pain and smiling, would land the final blow. He told her to leave, hands clasped to burn forever, she told him he was done, they could rest.

But still, he had to end what they'd begun. With a parting smile, and between eyes a tether as old as anything, she offered her heart and he gave her a world to live in.

The last time she saw him, she saw gold.

And when the world buried him, he shone.

No problem, Honey!

It was my pleasure. I was annoyed when I realised none of my entries were set in S7, so I had to write one with the last prompt. Then, all set to base it in Chosen I remembered about Buffy's POV. I couldn't resist.

I am so very glad you like it! I wasn't sure if it felt "Buffy" enough, but if you say it does, who am I to doubt?

Plus, I love gifting you fic!

ETA: Where does the title come from? (Or did I miss that in the notes at top?)

I was annoyed when I realised none of my entries were set in S7, so I had to write one with the last prompt.

Interesting - why annoyed if I may ask? ;) And what was the prompt? I tend to dip in and out of fag ends (and ashtray) and not really follow along exactly; just when something of interest pops up on my flist page.)

I wasn't sure if it felt "Buffy" enough, but if you say it does, who am I to doubt?

VERY sensible of you, of course.

I'd be LOL'ing or LMAO'ing if it weren't true: getting Buffy "right" IMHO is one of my biggest criteria for any fic that includes her; and as I notice that a lot of Spuffy fics focus on Spike or the reviews themselves tend to, I go a little out of my way to praise writers when they get Buffy "right". (I don't hand out praise falsely or lightly though. I'm not going to say I like something i don't.)

And I LOVE getting these lovely gifts. They make my day.

The title? No idea, really. Sometimes I just come up with things that fit, even if they aren't explained in the fic. It can be misleading...

Though, the prompt did involve the words "wild and unpredictable", and I mention them clinging to each other. I don't really know, if I'm being honest.

I was annoyed because I love S7, and in particular, their relationship in it. It seemed strange that I would ignore it.

It was for a Halloween challenge, you had to use prompts from a spellbook - this one was werewolf blood. There is a whole passage that details the spell ingredient and you can use any of it for the fic.

I remembered you saying about Buffy and getting her "right" in fics. I wanted to be sure there was no blasphemy afoot!

And you're welcome. Like I said, I love to write them.

I wondered if it was something from a poem or a piece of literature. I know people who are very good at picking a passage from an existing text and adapting it for a title. I pretty much suck at titles, period. (My only btvs fic I've posted so far is titled "Untitled (AU post-The Gift)." I figured, my sweetie can title a painting "Untitled" as painters have done through history, why can't I?

The title of my LJ is actually something that I just wrote down in my journal several years back at random. I wish I were better at that in general.

I was annoyed because I love S7, and in particular, their relationship in it.

YAY for S7 love! I tend to think any season that's underrated in general is, well, underrated - which means 1, 4, and 7. Every season has it's flaws and charms; and it's easy even for me to focus on the flaws of S7 and miss what's good and worth celebrating.

I wanted to be sure there was no blasphemy afoot!

This is wisdom, young Jedi. there will be no blasphemy on my watch!

I actually rather love titles, particularly ones that are hard to figure out. I like being all poetic, so it's like coming up with a phrase that sums up the idea or theme, without directly mentioning the fic - it's why so many of my fics have subtitles in brackets. I get carried away.

Yeah, all the seasons have their flaws, I love 'em anyway. Ask me today what my favourite season is, and it won't be the answer I give you tomorrow.

Also, the jedi thing had me in tears - laughter tears, I don't have painful Star Wars trauma.

Thank you so very much!

That's pretty much my favourite line, even if I basically stole it from the end of the other one (Spike's POV) - hey, they're both mine, so it's not like actual theft. I only changed the end bit (he shone).

Still, glad you liked!
